News from the Outdoors
The Nature Detectives spent a lot of time outdoors this past week exploring both the natural playground and the grounds around the school.
We played in the sandbox, digging for treasure, pretended the climber was a ship and sailed off to distant locales such as Tokyo and Egypt. Some detectives even went on scuba adventures from the ship. We even invented some new ball games with the slide.
The Nature Detectives went on some hikes as well. We pretended to be a sandwich with the teachers as the bread and the Nature Detectives as the tasty ingredients while we ventured out towards some of the great spots around the school. We explored the meadow, and saw lots of butterflies, monarch caterpillars, and milkweed bugs. The afternoon kids even caught a glimpse of the tree frog who likes to hang out in the nesting box!
News from the Classroom
The Nature Detectives spent some time inside our school as well, getting to know each other and exploring the various learning centers of the classroom.
The kids made watercolor paintings for their cubby tags, decorated their Nature Bags, hosted helicopter pool parties (among other imaginative scenarios) with the playhouse and sculpted with play dough, and dressed up in detective gear in the imaginary play area.
We also read lots of books, some of which included:
The Kissing Hand
Llama Llama Misses Mama
Bear’s New Friend
